Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) refers to the strategies developed and implemented to improve a website’s ranking on search engines. You can have a stunning website using the latest web design and web development technologies but this is somewhat wasted if prospective clients cannot easily find you. And we all know that we rarely look much beyond the first page of search engine rankings when searching a topic.

Search Engine Optimisation strategies can be multi-faceted including the use of paid or sponsored search such as adwords. These are the ads that appear at the very top of the search results page, identifiable by a coloured shaded background and the word ‘Ads’ appearing the top right hand corner of the shaded box. Other Search Engine Optimisation strategies include what is referred to as ‘organic’ or pure searches based on quality content, unique and accurate description meta-tags, targeted key words or phrases and landing pages and quality content.

It can be a tricky task to balance the website requirements of the client with optimisation strategies so it is important that you engage an SEO expert who is capable of achieving Search Engine Optimisation results without compromising your requirements. It is also important to understand that for most industries quality Search Engine Optimisation strategies will not achieve first page ranking overnight. There will be providers who make and deliver this promise however their ranking will be short lived. It takes time, sometimes many months to achieve optimal rankings but using quality long-term strategies, you can be assured that your ranking will remain high for some time.
