Many people are looking to social media as a means of furthering their search engine optimisation (SEO) efforts simply because this is the perfect means of connecting with customers on a more personal level. Whilst there is a lot of hype surrounding Facebook SEO, have you ever wondered whether you can use your company’s Twitter account for the same end?
Step 1: Determine what you want to post (or 'Tweet') about. Have you recently released a new product or have you been featured in a magazine or newspaper article? It is often helpful to have a list of potential topics that you can draw from when you become stuck.
Step 2: Conduct a search for SEO keywords that are related to the topic that you wish to Tweet about. You can use the search bar located in the right hand panel to help you achieve this.
For each keyword or phrase, make sure that you check the frequency of the Tweets being posted. The easiest way to achieve this is to scroll to the bottom of the first page and see when the 20th Tweet was posted. This will tell you how popular the keyword is.
Step 3: Conduct a search for popular hash tags. These are used to group popular topics on Twitter by placing a # in front of a specific phrase. By using two or even three hash tags at the end of your post, you are increasing the chances of someone seeing your Tweet.
Step 4: Try to include the most Tweeted words as early as possible in your Tweet, preferably in the first two paragraphs. You should also include a link to the article or to another blog or website if it relates to the topic so that readers can click through for more information.
There are, of course, plenty of other ways that you can utilize Twitter in your SEO strategy, much of the work going on behind the scenes. The above instructions can only be used for improving the popularity of your Tweets as they are posted.
