In this day and age, there are plenty of professionals from the industry of web development in Melbourne who think that the best way to write their code is by using open source or commercial software. Whilst there are plenty of advantages to support this decision, there are also plenty of reasons to suggest that you should write your own code wherever possible, including:
- Education: Most developers have paid thousands of dollars in university tuition to be taught how to code – don’t let those skills go to waste. You also never know when you are going to need to use your coding skills, so it is recommended to keep them up to date.
- Profit: If you are coding a website, software or an application that you may plan on selling in the future, you are likely to get much more money if you can claim that it is ‘highly customised’ and ‘unique to everyone else’s work’.
- Reuse: In web development, it is likely that there will be components that you will use again and again. Instead of using someone else’s code, it makes much more sense to write it once (in your own stylistic hand) and to pull it out whenever you need it.
If you are a person who enjoys using code from open source or commercial software, there is nothing to say that you shouldn’t consider doing so. You should keep in mind, however, that there is a time and a place where writing your own code is the more preferable option. Isn’t this the main point of web development after all?
