What Does An SEO Company Actually Do?

Whilst anyone working with websites will suggest that you employ a search engine optimization (SEO) company to help write your content, they never really explain what exactly an SEO company is going to do to your website. Believe it or not, optimizing (and maintaining this optimization) for a website is a full time job, and this is why:

Essentially, an SEO company will take steps to improve your website’s ranking with the various search engines (such as Google and Yahoo). The company will aim to make your website rank better organically (without paying) for certain keywords related to the purpose of your site. They will do this through the SEO of the content itself, as well as introducing blogs, articles and outside links.

Unfortunately, your SEO company cannot give you a time frame for how long it will take you to see an improvement in your website’s ranking, nor can they guarantee that you will eventually receive the coveted top spot for each of your chosen keywords. The reason that SEO is so important, even if you don’t end up receiving top results, is that it can slowly push your site up the ranking chain, making it more likely to be clicked on.

At the end of the day, SEO companies do not control the search engines and the way that they rank all the websites that are active on the internet – all that they can do is utilize clever SEO techniques to nudge the search engine spiders in the right direction. There is never any guarantee that your website will receive number results (and, if it does, that you will keep them) – rather, an SEO company will aim to get your website the best results possible.
