3 Social media trends for 2013

As 2012 slowly draws to a close, people are beginning to wonder what’s on the cards for 2013. With social media steadily seeing an increase in importance over the last few years, many people are expecting big things for this area of the online realm, which is why we have compiled a list of 3 trends that we think will come to the forefront next year.

  • Mobile Usage
With more and more people purchasing smart phones every day, it has been suggested that people surfing the internet on these device will surpass those using computers and laptops by 2015. Next year, however, it is critical for companies to begin developing advertising options that are suitable for the mobile web in order to prepare for this.
  • Beyond Marketing
This year, most companies were using social media to help further their marketing campaigns. In 2013, on the other hand, we are likely to see bigger companies shift even further into the sphere, as it hold many solutions for these big enterprises (such as streamlining application processes and monitoring sales).
  • Formalized Education
These days, it is no longer enough to just be able to send a Tweet or post a status update – social media platforms are constantly becoming more advanced. This is why we are likely to see a rise in formal education at university for social media, even dedicated bachelor programs. Training for employees is also becoming more common.

Over the next 12 months, we have predicted a number of changes and trends that we believe will come into effect. Whilst it is true that these trends have been on the way for a few years now, we feel that 2013 will be finally when we see them begin to take effect in the social media sphere – just keep your eye out for them.
